Etihad is the sole airline who offers a direct route between the U.S. and Abu Dhabi International. Yet a host of American carriers, including United Airlines and Delta, fly direct from the U.S. to the UAE's most popular airport, Dubai International. (In fact, Dubai International is rated the tenth-busiest airport in the world, according to data from the Airports Council International, while Abu Dhabi does not even register in the most-trafficked index.)

President Obama’s senior thesis at Columbia University has been embargoed. It is said to be an endorsement of the Nuclear Freeze Movement that was so much the cause célèbre of the left here and throughout Western Europe in the Reagan years. We may have to wait for his presidential library to open to find out.

For example, a 14-year-old girl named Sarah Ishaq Abdel-Malek is missing. She was taken from her family for likely sexually exploitation. Government authorities appear to know where she is being held and who is holding her, but she likely remains missing because she is a Coptic Christian held by fundamentalist Salafi Muslims.

Last May, the world was treated to an unprecedented spectacle. President Obama was meeting in Seoul, South Korea, with leaders of the G-8 (G-10? G-20?) He was caught on a live mic talking with then-Russian President Dmitri Medvedev. Mr. Obama wanted no disturbances in foreign policy to roil the waters. He wanted smooth sailing to re-election in November.

There’s an old story from the Jewish shetls of Eastern Europe. There was a singing contest among the animals. The Nightingale loses, despite her lovely singing voice. Looking down on the jury, she sees the grunting wild pigs. She weeps, not because she lost, she says. “But see who my judges are!”
