Capitalism is not the problem in this country. Capitalism is what made this country as great as it was. The problem is the way that capitalism has been bastardized by the greedy...of all socio-economic backgrounds.

Harken back to that old west blacksmith or livery owner. They were capitalists. They sought a good day's work for a good day's pay. They didn't try to rip people off, they tried to be fair and morally minded.

On the other side of that coin was the wealthy land barons. The more they had, the more power they had so the more they flaunted it. Not all of them were like the Cartwrights.....few actually were.

Today, we have the humble, honorable hot dog vendors...practicing blacksmith capitalism. They perform a service for a reasonable price without having to rip you off. Then there's the Corporate CEOs. I'm not going to name names but the President of my company is sanctioning layoff after layoff...outsourcing entire divisions (mine was one)...yet he got his multi million dollar 'bpnus' on top of his million dollar salary. All while he watched the company's stock fall below 96% of what is was when he took over. A once great American Icon known the world over, one of which I was very proud to be working for, now a shell of it's former self with the founder's body spinning in its grave.

Shame on America for letting this happen. The rich might pay more dollars in taxes than I do...but let's be realistic...let's talk percentages and how it directly affects one's lifestyle. The 30% I pay is more than the 15% Newt paid. Thirty percent of my sub $50k annual salary is a lot more life changing than 15% of a multi-million dollar a year income.

To Ms. Parker.....I appreciate the skill you used in writing your article. It's nice to see a 'professional' writer actually proofread. However, each sentence should not be an entity unto itself. There are things called paragraphs....you should know how to use them.

Please don't blame the poor people for being poor. The government has regulation that automaticly place people in Medicaid program when they don't ask. Rick should not have named any racial group,he put his own foot in his mouth. He could very easyly said poor people,he used Black to play on emotions of White people who already hate Obama and think all Black's are on welfare.I agree truth sometimes hurt but when its used for political purposes it's not just truth. If you break the % down most are elderly and kids. The medicaid program might be bad but health care is provided by Doctors and other health care people who see other private pay patients.Unless you know the facts please stop puting all health care in same catogory.

Katsy, As my kids would say, "What she said!" I would suggest to the author that perhaps he would benefit from a re-examination of what innocent until proven guilty means. A good article written by my friend Hassan Nuruallah entitled "We Are Far From Him", helped me put this whole mess in perspective. By the way this guy should be a columnist in your e zine. He's great.

I completely disagree! You are assuming Cain is guilty in most of this article, but then assume him innocent through the rest of it, rightly understanding that these women have no proof of any relationship or wrong action on the part of Mr. Cain. Let's assume him to be innocent all the way through. Let's assume his version of things (as stated in the press conference after Sharon Bialek's accusations, and his lengthy interview on FoxNews the other day [with Bret Baier? Neil Cavuto? I can't remember]) is correct.

We have 2 anonymous accusers and one named accuser -- if they're lying, there is no possible way he could have known that he would be accused of such misdeeds. None. Had his team asked him, and he answered truthfully, how could he have imagined that he would be accused of sexual harassment by three women he didn't know, perhaps had never even met nor seen, nor had he ever been in contact with?

Yes, he should have disclosed the past sexual harassment charge to his team, but you're assuming he didn't, while that may not be the case [although I haven't followed these stories closely, so maybe you know something I don't know, and aren't just assuming]. Even though the woman who filed the claim has been released from her confidentiality agreement, there are still no details as to what she accused him of [though, again, the Board found him innocent of the charges; and again, it's easy to *say* things, and harder to *prove* them]. Considering some of the innocent things that have been considered "sexual harassment" by people in the past, I'm willing to cut Herman Cain some slack. What if he is telling the truth? -- that he was charged with S.H. by this woman, but it was baseless; is a false and baseless claim from 15 years ago supposed to be a sole disqualifying reason not to run? That's a shame, if so.

As to this woman, again, if Herman Cain looked on her as just a friend [and there is no proof of anything else going on; and those two signed books do seem to indicate his truthfulness, that he was just trying to help her out by writing encouraging thoughts], how on earth could he have known that she was going to turn it into a 13-year affair?! He said in his FoxNews interview that has helped lots of people in the past, giving them money directly, instead of going through government or charitable organizations; "to the pure, all things are pure" -- if he is innocent, he would not have looked on his charity towards this woman as possible evidence of adultery, so *could not* have alerted his staff of such a possibility.

I say again, "to the pure, all things are pure" -- if he is innocent of any wrong-doing in these areas [and the burden of proof is rightly placed on these women, not on Mr. Cain], false and baseless claims from women he didn't even know, and from a woman he thought was a friend, could not possibly have been foreseen.

Dr. King, thank you for your perspective. Mr. Cain has decided to oppose an entrenched system that would, in effect, enslave all of us, and the system is resisting with all the tools and power available to it. I believe we are in a struggle that transcends that which is visible. I am convinced that the struggle is ultimately a spiritual one, but as a nation I am not certain that we are up to the task given the decline in our moral condition. I support Herman Cain not just for his conservatism but also for the fact that he stands for biblical principles, the same biblical principles upon which this nation was founded.

What is foremost in he minds of Cain's opponents: Cain is a Conservative Republican who's trying to escape from the Democrats' plantation. As such, he is a mortal enemy of all who would oppress and have oppressed Blacks throughout our history.

Armstrong Williams has said:
"(Y)ou can’t for a minute tell me Politico wouldn’t have run the story if it had been Romney, Perry, Paul or Bachmann. It has nothing to do with his skin color." When you can dig out something in print dealing contemporaneously with JFK's or FDR's peccadilloes, then I might give some creedence to your assertion.
The fact is, indisputably, that Herman Cain is just one more target of the Democratic dictum applied to every conservative Black Republican: "You are guilty until proven innocent."
